A Little Christmas Wrap Up..

Our Christmas 2010

So we are back home in Mildura, after a lovely venture home to Brisbane for the holidays.  Although it rained a little more than we had planned for, we enjoyed a beautiful time with our families celebrating Christmas.  I look forward to sharing some photos of our celebrations over the next few days.

Speaking of the next few days, I'm always intrigued by this time of the year, what does it mean for you?  Is it a time of relaxation and reflection, or planning for the coming year?  For me, today is about enjoying a moment and doing well, not much at all.  It seems so nice, to just take in the year that has been and get ready for new and exciting adventures.

What do you like to do in the last few days of the year?

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a beautiful festive season with family and friends.  My family has all gathered together and we will begin our celebrations later this afternoon.  Only a little it of last minute grocery shopping to go and the festivities can begin.

Enjoy this very special time of the year.  I look forward to seeing everyone in a few days to celebrate the coming of a new year.

Moments at the Gallery..

One of the featured artworks by Ryan McGinley - via 21st Century blog

Yesterday I took myself (notebook and camera in hand) to the Gallery of Modern Art to check out the new exhibition, 21st Century: Art in the First Decade.  It has only been open for a few days and I hadn't really read anything about it, and upon arrival I realised this was no ordinary exhibition.  It took me almost two and half hours to wander through, lost in a surreal world of purple balloons, giant slides, white lego and a wall full of ribbons.  At times I wasn't sure if I was at an art gallery or amusement park, this exhibition really does blur the boundaries between art and everyday life.  My favourite piece was major sound work created by French artist CĂ©leste Boursier-Mougenot, where you are invited to share the gallery space with live finches. Just breathtaking.

If you are in Brisbane make sure you pop done to GoMA and check it out.  It is a truly amazing experience and is also perfect for families.  For more information check out their website and fascinating behind the scenes blog.

Have an inspiring and artistic Wednesday!

The Christmas Table..

Today I am really in the unwinding holiday zone.  Whilst everyone has gone back to work, I'm spending the day at my mum's, hanging out with the dog, reading magazines and blogs, drinking tea, watching old movies and going on daydreaming adventures.  It is just lovely.

I'm also finding inspiration for table decorations for our family Christmas celebrations. After much searching I stumbled upon one of my very favourite features from the 2008 Christmas Inside Out magazine.

Lisa Cooper's beautiful, eye catching Christmas Tea Party is the perfect mix of quirky elegance that I would love to create.

I hope you are having a lovely Monday.  Can't wait to pop around to everyone's blogs and enjoy the Christmas cheer.  Can you believe there are only five days to go!

Flea Market Finds..

Good Morning sunshines! It is indeed a lovely day for flea market finds, even if it is a little bit rainy here in Brisbane.  I hope you have found some lovely treats this week.  My meander through the inspiring streets of Paddington yesterday were very fruitful indeed.  I just love op shopping in different cities, its like searching for buried treasure. To check out last weeks finds, just pop over here.

Every time I visit Brisbane, my first stop is always Latrobe Terrace (wearing a very comfortable pair of shoes) to explore the great op shops and the Antique Centre.  After a little searching, I discovered these very interesting finds.

The little Italian leather bag came from the Endevour foundation store and my favourite find, a fabulous Beatles print from the Antique Centre.

Flea Market Finds..

Happy Sunday everyone.  I hope your weekend has been delightful, I'm sure you have some lovely Sunday plans.  But before we get to Sunday adventures let's see what everyone has discovered this week.  For previous week's finds pop over here.

I'm so excited by my find this week.  I always get lucky having little feet and often check out the shoe section of the local op shops, however I only had a little bit of success this year.  But yesterday on my quick Saturday stop at Salvo's I found these lovely little T-bars heels, perfect for the Christmas party season.

This lovely pair of RMK heels may just be my favourite find of the year.

So what lovely things have you found this week? To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. Today the sun was shining.. and I taught my last class for the year.  Today I thought about what a year it has been, what a wonderful adventure I've been on.  And I suppose was one of those moments that happens in each year, when you take a deep breath, exhale and then look towards tomorrow.

Hoist the sails, pull out the compass.
Please tell Captain Jack Sparrow.. I'm off to explore new horizons.

A Life in Frocks..

I love stumbling upon beautiful books when you least expect it and yesterday afternoon I did just that.  There on the shelf was the most delightful book I had seen in some time. A Life in Frocks by Kelly Doust called me in with its lovely title and gorgeous front cover and thus far is delivering an enchanting, inspiring and joyful read.. and I'm only a few chapters in.  The perfect gift for a a fashion loving, friend, daughter, mother or yourself, this lovely memoir is one of the highlights of my reading year.

What's in a name..

I just had to share a little something with you from my finds this weekend.  I'm always on the look out for lovely old books, I especially have a soft spot for vintage school books wrapped in brown paper.  At Around Again on Saturday, I found a lovely old grammar book and I had to giggle when I saw the name on the inside cover.

Senior Grammar - owned by a Mr. George Lucas
I'm beginning to think this might be the start of a new collection for me - Books that may have been owned by the rich and famous.

I just love names, whenever I meet someone I have to find out what their middle name is.  And I'll let you in on a secret, I often write interesting names down, in case I need a character's name in a story.  So I'd love to know what's the most interesting name you have ever heard?

PS.  Got a find this week, pop over and play here.

Flea Market Finds..

Happy Sunday! And once again a lovely day for some fabulous finds. I've finally finished all my reports and corrections for the year, so I'm very happy teacher indeed. I've also had a very interesting weekend of finds and I hope you've found some lovely things too. To check out all the wonderful finds from previous weeks, just pop over here.

So yesterday before the ballet, my hubby and I had a lovely morning, scouring all the op shops in town. Looking for nothing in particular, we ended up with an eclectic array of goodness in the back of my little Suzuki Swift.

This assortment (including the chair) came from Around Again, the famous tip shop. Loving the peppermint green sundae glasses.

And a sweet little vintage dress from Salvos.
Overall I nice little stash for the day.

So what have you found this week? To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. Remember you can play any time during the week! And please feel free to upload your fabulous finds to the Flea Market Finds flickr pool too.

Behind the Scenes..

Just had to share a behind the scenes shot of my lovely assistant Olive, who was helping or rather destroying the little vignette I created for my new header. Note to self.. never leave a playful cat alone in a room with a dish full of buttons.

Hope you are having a wonderful Thursday!

Wednesday, 1 December 2010

Perhaps it's the strangely cold weather we have been having recently or the fact that my calendar now says its December but today I am feeling very festive indeed. Not only am I decking the halls of my house but I also managed to add a little festive splendor to the staff workroom today. This only made me dream more about chestnuts, fires, mistletoe and the thought of one day experiencing a white Christmas. Until then.. I'm inspired by these gorgeous snowflake decorations from Anthropologie and Udessi.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Oh, and if you are after some gift ideas, check out Tea for Joy , The Design Files and Oh Joy.

Please Note: This post was written whilst listening to Winter Wonderland sung by Bing Crosby (never fails to get my into the Christmas Spirit)

Deck the Halls..

For those who follow tradition (or perhaps it is just my family), today is when the Christmas magic happens... the halls are decked and the tree is trimmed. This year we are going home to Brisbane to spend Christmas with our families, which means some creative decorating for our little cottage as we won't putting up our traditional Christmas tree.

With a little inspiration from the latest Country Style magazine, I've been creating some handmade decorations to adorn the house. Looking forward to showing you the finished results later in the week.

Much Love and Christmas cheer!
