Special Guest - Kit and Nancy

My final special guest for the week is the very lovely Laura from Kit and Nancy.  I just love Laura's blog.  It's always filled with yummy treats, wonderful thrifting adventures and the best vintage sheet collection I've ever seen.  I'm so excited at Laura will be sharing one of her favourite recipes today.
~~~
Hello!
I'm Laura from 'Kit and Nancy' popping over to Sophie's blog to share some sweet treats with you. I am so happy to have this opportunity to guest blog at 'Her Library Adventures' to help keep you inspired whilst Sophie is away. As a keen sweet treat baker (read: Betty Crocker II) I thought it was necessary to share one of my favourite recipes with you. I've been a lover of baking since I was a Brownie at age 9 winning badges for stewing apples and apron sewing. Watching my nanny Kit bake victoria sponges whilst growing up in England is still one of my favourite memories. Baking biscuits to dunk in my giant mugs of milky tea is still a weekend ritual for me. I've dabbled in packet cake mixes (thank you betty) but find nothing else more satisfying than someone enjoying one of my homemade treats. A lot of my baking is gluten free (red velvets, raspberry spiked brownies and biscuits) as many of my friends have an intolerance and I prefer the final result.
 What I'm going to share with you today is a women's weekly (my bible) recipe for Monte Carlos. Not only are they super simple but the best part is the vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam filling, delicious! They're kind of like my version of the scone and because of the gf flour, have more of a melting moment texture which has become it's signature appeal. Who needs an excuse to whip out the raspberry jam anyway? Feel free to pop over and say hi, I would love to hear about your monte carlo results! Thank you for having me Sophie and happy baking all!
Ingredients:
185g butter
½ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1¼ cups gluten free self-raising flour
¾ cup gluten free plain flour
½ cup coconut
raspberry or other jam
FILLING
60g butter
¾ cup icing sugar
½ tsp vanilla
2 tsp milk
FILLING: Cream butter and sifted icing sugar until light and fluffy, add vanilla, gradually add milk, beat well.
1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add egg and vanilla, beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients and coconut, mix well.
2. Roll teaspoonfuls of mixture into balls, shape into ovals and place on lightly greased oven trays, rough up surface with back of fork. Bake in moderate oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
3. Remove from oven, cool on wire rack.
4. Put a tsp of jam and a tsp of prepared filling in centre of half the biscuits. Top with remaining halves and press together lightly.
5. Place on a pretty vintage plate and put the kettle on!
6. Eat and enjoy!
Special Guest - Handmade Romance
Today my Special Guest is the very delightful crafty lady Evie from Handmade Romance.  Evie's blog is filled with beautiful bit and pieces that she makes and things that inspire her world.  Be sure to pop over and say hi and check out her very handsome Boy Tie Boys.
~~~

Hello! My name is Evie, my blog is Handmade Romance. You may have visited my blog before, or not, thats okay too.

Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I have a little love affair with Etsy and every so often I'll post seven of my favourite Etsy finds from the week past.
When Sophie asked if I'd like to do a guest post while she was away I was delighted and thought it would be great to mix our passions. What I came up with was an Etsy 7 themed around vintage books.

I hope you like them. It's hard not to judge a book-by-it's-cover when they look as pretty as these! Don't you think?

1. Blue Mysteryby Margot Benary-Isbert
2. Bumper the White Rabbitby George Ethelbert Walsh
3. Eight Original Comic Operasby W.S. Gilbert
5. The Second Reading Bookby Eben H. Davis
6. The History of the Five Little Pigsby C.Routledge and Co
7. From Gold to Greyby Mary D. Brine

Thanks to Sophie for letting me write a guest post on her wonderful blog. I had fun putting this together and searching through all the vintage books on Etsy.

My Creative Space..

This week, in all the busyness that is the last few weeks of the school term, I find myself taking a few moment of creativity in my vintage studio. I often have lovely people ask where I stash all my 'finds'. Well I am very lucky to have a room to myself, where I can display, create and bring all my vintage pieces together.

This week I've been enjoying sneaking into my little space in the afternoons to potter, stack tea cups and enjoy the world of yesteryear. I also have a lovely bed in there, which is perfect for reading, creating or in many cases nanna napping.

I can't wait to share more photos from my vintage studio very soon.
For many more creative spaces pop over to here.

Happy Thursday!

My Creative Space..

My creative space this week.. is simply bursting with stacks of magazines and pretty torn pages.  Yes, the postcard production is in full swing. I am so delighted by everyone's wonderful response to my little postcard idea.  It means so much to me. Yesterday afternoon, I sat in the winter sunshine among the leaves to cut, paste and create my rapidly evolving travelling artworks.  I've never created anything on this scale and I'm fascinated as each postcard evolves from an idea or image.  Each has a unique style and even a name and I can't wait to start matching them to their lovely recipients.

And so it's almost time for the writing to begin..

It's not to late to join the fun! Would you like to receive a handmade postcard? Pop over here to find out all the details and sign up.

Bedside Books..

There are a few things in this world I just can't go anywhere without.  The first one is a pen to scribble notes (you will often find me with one in my ponytail) and the other is a book to read.  I have emergency books stashed everywhere, especially beside my bed, just in case I finish reading one before I fall asleep or I feel like a change.  So I thought I'd share with you, my favourite bedside 'feel good' books.

1. A Room of One's Own by Virgina Woolf - For when I'm feeling curious, intelligent and passionate.

2. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett - For when I need to feel at home, warm and content.

3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - For when I'm feeling romantic and a little bit whimsy.

4. This is not a Book by Keri Smith - For the moments I want to be creative and cheeky.

5. The Secret Staircase by Jill Barklem - For moments of childhood nostalgia and wonderful dreams.

6. Spaces by Frankie Magazine - For times of inspiration to decorate, recreate and tidy the house.

So there you have it.. Now I must ask, what books do you have beside your bed?

Must see Museum List..

Sunday afternoon, I was overcome with a case of wanderlust.. not just to travel but to see all the most wonderful museums, costumes and art in the world.  So I made a pot of tea and set out on a virtual tour and here is a list of the places I ventured with the help of Google and Pinterest.  So far I've crossed the Uffizi Gallery and the Pompidou Centre off my 'real life' must visit list and I just can't wait to one day visit them them all.

I'd love to hear about your museum adventures.  Where have you been? What did you love?
