Special Guest - One Sheepish Girl

My first special guest is the gorgeous Meredith from One Sheepish Girl.  I just adore Meredith's sweet blog which is filled with all kinds of perfect quirky crochet, tea, books and lovely weekends.  I'm so excited to have Meredith here today to share her carry on bag essentials.

~~~~
Hello! My name is Meredith from One Sheepish Girl. Sophie was sweet enough to ask me to guest blog for her while she is away. Keeping with the travel theme, I thought I would share a few of my carry-on essentials...
1. I love this floral Vera Bradley bag. I usually keep all of my knitting in it, but it's also the perfect carry-on size.
2. My Urbanears headphones.
3. My iPad and iPhone. I always have a book to read on my iPad and my favorite music on my iPhone. It helps the time go faster.
4. Yarn. I love to bring a small knitting or crochet pattern on the plane too. Socks are always a great choice for an on-the-go project.
5. My Diana Dreamer camera. I love this little film camera and the memories it captures.
6. A travel journal. I love jotting down my travel adventures.
7. Knitting needles and crochet hooks. (They are TSA approved! Yay!) ;-)
8. Snacks and gum. My ears always pop on planes, so I'm constantly chewing gum.
Well, these are my essentials! It makes me wish I was packing for a vacation too. :-)
Thank you for having me here Sophie!
For Just a Moment..
This week continues to be one of the busiest I've had all year.  Between work, Uni, my hubby's birthday, organising and packing for NYC and working on the living room, I must say I'm in a bit of a whirlwind.  So when I need a quite little moment, to breath and have a cup of tea, there is no better spot than in my little vintage studio space.  With the sun shining in through the windows, surrounded by all my favourite collections, it is the perfect spot to just be for a moment or two.
Where is your favourite spot to unwind?
My Creative Space..
Like any good crafty soul, I find myself inspired the most when I have a giant to do list.  So of course, on my way to the supermarket yesterday I stopped into my favourite thrift shop and found the sweetest pair of side table, just waiting for a little makeover, inspired by Elsie's recent DIY project.
So I took a little break from reading, writing, marking, cooking and packing to have a bit of fun with some spray paint and a few doilies.
I wanted a large subtle pattern in fun colour, so I used three large doiles and some yellow gloss spray paint.  Thrifty purchases and spray paint always go so well together!
I love that each pattern is slightly different and at a glance they look like lovely big flowers.  When you look closer all the little details appear.  Together these tables will make a lovely little telephone stand and will add the perfect pop of colour to our new living room.
Check out all the other lovely creative spaces this week over here.
High Tea & Ballet..
Sunday was the most perfect day for High Tea and Ballet.  The weather was amazing and Ampelon Gardens was the most beautiful setting for a lovely conversations, pretty dresses, glasses of bubbly, sweet treats and amazing ballet.  There was even a croquet match between Alice and the Red Queen.  What more could a girl want on a Sunday afternoon!
What I Wore.. The Perfect Date
Dress: Red Velvet  Cardigan: Dotti
Tights: K-Mart  Belt: Thifted
Shoes: Rivers  Beads: Equip
I was so delighted on Thursday afternoon when I picked up the mail to find a lovely little package from Red Velvet.  It was perfect timing indeed, because I got to wear my new 'First Date' dress on my fifth wedding anniversary.  It was so much fun to style this dress, it's so easy to dress up or down.  It is definitely my new favourite piece for Spring.  For this look I took the 1960s mod style back a decade, and added a few 1950s touches with a mustard cardigan and patent leather T-bar heels.  We had such a beautiful day and this was the perfect outfit to celebrate in!
Flea Market Finds..
Happy Sunday my thrifting friends! I do hope you are having a delightful weekend and have found a few free moments for a little thrifting adventure.  Or perhaps you were even lucky enough to find yourself at a flea market. What fun!  Thanks so much for playing along last week, you can check out all the lovely bits and pieces over here.
This week, I did some quick thrifting as I didn't have a great deal of time to search the racks, but quick thrifting is better than no thrifting and I was delighted to find a few cute things.
I had another sweet camera score from the tip, a fun Kodak instant camera in it's original box. I also found a few pieces of lovely floral linen and this pretty Tuscan China cup and saucer.
My favourite finds for the week were these two vintage dresses.. I just love the cut of the white dress, so classic, and the fabulous colour and print of 1960s yellow piece.  Definitely two of my all time favourite dress finds. You can see my whole rack of vintage pieces here.
What have you found this week?  To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. It would be just so sweet of you to link back here from your blog too, so that others can play along.  Remember you can play any time during the week! Happy Weekend..
Morning! I hope you are having a lovely start to your weekend! Have you got anything special planned? My weekend is shaping up to be very exciting indeed.  This morning I'm doing a photo shoot for my latest Sophie Isobel Vintage collection (more about that soon).  Then I'm spending the rest of the day (and most likely night) giving our lounge room a much needed makeover.  Yay! No more pink walls! Tomorrow I'm trading my painting entire for a pair of heels and a china tea cup for the Ballet Guild's High Tea. It will be a delightful afternoon indeed! Go pop the kettle on, sit back and enjoy a few of my favourite links and lovely things for the week.
A Love Story...
 Five years ago today, I married the love of my life..
Our love story began on the 22nd of November 2003.  I was waitressing at the cafe on the Gold Coast and Ben worked as a barman in the functions centre downstairs.  At closing time, he was sent upstairs to help me pack up the outside tables. We quickly introduced ourselves and briefly chatted and he disappeared back downstairs. We only spoke for a few minutes but as I drove home that night, I couldn't stop thinking about him.
The rest, as they say is history.
Within a few weeks we began working together and within a month, we were inseparable.
 Within a year we were engaged and on a beautiful Spring afternoon two years later, we exchanged wedding vows.  It was perfect.
That day I walked down the isle to Gerocki by Lamb and it is these lyrics that best describe our eternal love story...
"Could we stay right here
Until the end of time
'Til the earth stops turning
Wanna love you 'til the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for.."
Writing Lists.. Tips and Ideas
Inspired, overwhelmed or just a little stressed out? One if the best ways I find to get my mind organised is to write a list or two.
When I'm inspired or procrastinating I know I can get really side tracked, so having a hand written list always helps me to stay focused and get things done more efficiently.  For me the best bit about a list is that when you finish a task, you can cross it off! I always feel a little sense of achievement when I see a long list getting smaller.
So I thought I'd share with you a few of my own lists and tips for keeping all your ideas and to dos organised.
Whiteboard
Perhaps it's the teacher in me, but I love using a whiteboard to stay organised with my blog.  I have this one on my office wall and keep the week's blog ideas here as well as a few inspiring images and quotes.
 Post Its
I love post its! I use these for smaller notes like this 'afternoon to do list'.  I often write these type of lists as they keep me on track during a busy afternoon.
Notebook
I can never go past a cute notebook and they are perfect for keeping all your ideas in one place. I carry this one in my handbag and while I'm at work, to note inspiring thoughts and blog ideas when I'm out and about.
Scrap Paper
Sometimes there is nothing like writing down everything you need to complete in a day on a nice bit of scrap paper.  This was my list from yesterday and includes work, Uni and blog post ideas. I like to write in fun colours, to keep my lists cheerful and also colour code important items.
 iPhone Apps
I just discovered a fun free To Do iphone app! It's just perfect for making lists with details and you can highlight your notes based on priority and date. I've been using this for long term items and notes on things to do in NYC.  If you are the app type, here is a whole list of useful To Do apps.
 Are you a list writer? I'd love to hear you tips and ideas too!
What I Wore.. Pop of Colour
Top:  Portmans   Singlet: Cotton On
 Skirt: Vigorella Tights: K-Mart
Belt: Thifted   Shoes: Rivers
Bracelet: Eclectik, Glenelg   Badge: GoMA  Lipstick: Revlon
Just when I thought Spring had finally arrived, the weather turned cold again! I made the most out of one warm day last week and enjoyed wearing short sleeves and a pop of Spring colour.  This outfit kind of came together by chance and just love it.  The Vigorella skirt is an absolute staple in my wardrobe, I wear it so often, I just love the big pockets and soft wool blend.  The print of this Cotton On singlet is really sweet and teaming  it with a skirt and heels changes its casual feel enough to wear to work.  And I can't forget my finishing touch, this fun little badge I got from the Surrealism exhibition at GoMA. It reads 'this is not a badge' in French and certainly got a few comments throughout the day.
Flea Market Finds..
Happy Sunday my dear thrifting friends.  I do hope you are having a simply delightful weekend and have found a few precious moments for a thrifting adventure.  Thank you so much to everyone who played along last week, keep those finds coming, they are oh so gorgeous! To check them all out pop over here.
This week, I had the most delightful little outings.  I must admit I spent hours wandering around on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, just taking in all the thrifted goodness. Even my little car likes treasure hunt and almost drove itself, to a thrift shop I hadn't intended to stop by.  But my car is very clever, so inside, I found three lovely vintage dresses, which just proves my theory that it always pays to check in!
So this week was all about sweet crockery! I just can't help myself.
My favourite finds included, not one but two cute little Japanese deer and this Japanese plate I just couldn't go past.
Of course a thrifting trip would not be complete without a little Johnson Australia pottery and I just loved the totem design on this beautiful early 1960s Portmeirion Pottery made by Susan Williams- Ellis
And I just love a sweet piece of Japanese pottery or two!
I also found another little treasure yesterday that's getting it's very own post during the week, so stay tuned!
What have you found this week?  To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. It would be just so sweet of you to link back here from your blog too, so that others can play along.  Remember you can play any time during the week! A very special handbag..
My gorgeous grandmother, Betty is one of my greatest inspirations, especially when it comes to fashion and accessories. The beautiful Betty B or Nan as I call her, has the most wonderful collection of shoes and handbags and I always remember when I was little, sitting on her bed, gazing into her perfectly kept wardrobe, the heels and bags lined up to match every outfit.
This is my very favourite photo of my grandparents and I together.  They were off to a wedding and I was so desperate to dress up and go with them, I changed into my favourite dress.  It seems I was in a little bit of a hurry as I put the dress on sideways.  It always makes me smile.
When I was visiting Nan is July, I was once again sitting the end of her bed, as I'd done so many times before and we began talking out her handbags.  She took a little box down from the top shelf and opened it.  Inside was the bag I always remembered, a sparkling little white Oroton.
Deciding that I might be able to put it to good use and give this lovely handbag an outing or two, Nan has now been entrusted with the Oroton and several lovely pieces in her Glomesh collection.  Needless to say, I'm overjoyed and now certainly have to organise my wardrobe as beautifully as Betty B's, so my handbags feel at home.
What made us both giggle was when I opened the sparkling little bag, inside the pocket, as if never touched was the original miniature brochure, filled with perfectly lovely pictures. It seems she was saving it, perhaps for her next purchase.
So this little post is for Betty B, thank you for inspiring me to enjoy the beauty in everyday and to dress up and dance at every opportunity!
What I Wore.. Thrifting Saturday
Dress: K-Mart Cardigan: Quick Brown Fox
Tights: Target   Belt: Thifted
Shoes: Rivers   Sunglasses: Cotton On
Saturday mornings are my favourite time to play dress ups.  I love mixing prints and colours together to create  a fun and most importantly comfortable outfit for a morning of thrifting.  I couldn't wait to wear the vintage belt I found last week, it's got the sweetest pattern and the perfect hint of mustard to match my favourite cardigan. And of course a thrifting outfit is not complete without comfortable ballet flats and a super fun pair of sunglasses.
Flea Market Finds..
Happy Sunday and also Happy Father's day to all those wonderful dads around the world.  I do hope you are having a most fabulous weekend and have enjoyed some great thrifting treasures too.  Pop over here to see all the lovely finds from last week, I'm especially loving all the vintage crockery finds!
So this week started out a little bit slowly, I found a few cute pieces of crockery, but I think I'd grabbed all the cute dresses last week.  But then yesterday, whilst at the tip shop, it was my wonderful hubby who found not only my treasure for the week, but perhaps even the whole year.
The story goes.. My hubby is a wonderful thrifting partner because he loves to check out all the strange things,  rummage around, open drawers, cupboards, boxes, whatever he can find.  I usually don't take much notice, especially at the tip, because he comes back with the most bizarre bits and pieces, most often old tools.  But yesterday I'm so glad he open a little old suitcase that was sitting in the corner because he found this..
He called me over and I expected to see a crazy old hand drill or hammer, but I actually squealed when I realised it was not only a vintage Polaroid camera, but the gorgeous little suitcase contained the original instructions, flash, bulbs and packaging.   In my excitement I didn't actually open the camera itself until we got in the car and it was then I realised just how special this find really was.
The camera which is a Polaroid Land Model 104 is in perfect condition and been very well looked after since it was purchased in the mid 1960s.  Needless to say I'm overjoyed by this little thrifty treasure and after a little bit of research I've found that I'll be able to get film to fit my wonderful camera, which I can't wait to try out!
So I've been reminded this week, to never miss a thrifting opportunity and look in every box and suitcase you see, because you just never know what you might find.
What have you found this week?  To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. It would be just so sweet of you to link back here from your blog too, so that others can play along.  Remember you can play any time during the week! Oh and pop over to Apron Thrift Girl for Thrift Share Monday.  Please feel free to upload your fabulous finds to the Flea Market Finds flickr pool too.   Looking forward to seeing all of your lovely thrifty pictures. If the Linky disappears, just refresh your browser.
