At The Movies..

I've noticed some reoccurring patterns when it comes to pregnancy conversations of late.  First it's 'Congratulations', then sometimes it's 'Are you sure it's not twins', then the usual 'Get plenty of sleep while you can' and then all of a sudden the conversation takes a turn to all things cultural with comments like, 'Make sure you go out to dinner as much as you can and see heaps of films'. Oh my,  looks like I have whole bunch to do before this little bubba joins us in December.

So these conversations have got me thinking about all the films I've been meaning to watch.  One film I've been patiently waiting for all year is Baz Luhrmann's remake of  The Great Gatsby, which I've just realised is coincidently due for release here in Australia within a week of my due date. Oh well, looks like I'll be enjoying Mr. DiCaprio for the comfort of my couch.  However, I still have some good quality film viewing time between now and December so I'd love to hear your recommendations.

What's your favourite film? What must I put on my to watch list? Recent, classic, foreign, I'd love to hear your suggestions.  I'll be sure to compile a list and pop it up in a future blog post just in case you'd like to have your own little Movie Marathon.

Can't wait to hear about your favourites!
Much Love

  2. I watched Beginners last week ... it stars Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer, and is based on Mike Mills (the director and writer's own experiences) ... a week after his wife's death, and after 44 years of marriage, his dad announced he was gay ... it's quite whimsical but profound ... it has life, death, love, relationships ... everything important, really :)

  6. I'm not sure how I feel about the Gatsby movie as I didn't like the book. Hmm... Movie recs though would have to be: Jane Eyre (new one), The Living Wake, and Thor (if you haven't seen it yet)

  7. Dan in Real Life - with Steve Carell and Juliette Binoche. It's funny and sad and filled with a quirky family and is everything that is great in real life.

  8. I'm SO excited for Moonrise Kingdom! I love Anything by Wes Anderson and I'm obsessed with Bill Murray. I'm watching What about Bob right now and it still cracks me up. If I were to suggest anything it would be to have a Wes Anderson Marathon.

    Bottle Rocket
    Rushmore
    The royal Tenenbaums
    The life Aquatic
    the Darjeeling Limited
    (fantastic Mr. Fox)
    & Moonrise Kingdom.

I might just do this anyway and I've seen them all other than the last one (obvi)

My favorite movie of all time is It's Pat... it's really weird though. have fun!

  9. People told us that we wouldn't be able to do anything once we had kids, but We just took our one month old to dinner and the movies and he slept through the whole date! I worry a bit about the loud noise, so I put baby earmuffs on him.haha

We've also seen snow white and the huntsman and really liked it! Its an adult movie for sure. Not like naughty* just a little dark, but the costumes, setting, etc were very good.

Marley and Me is also good one, even if you're not a dog fan. I cried big time watching it when I was pregnant with our first, because the family dynamic is so great and genuine!

    there's my two bits!
P.S. there is no way your pregnant with twins, ladies just say that because you're smaller then they were at the same stage in their pregnancies.haha

  10. I second Beginners. Also, Last Night (the Canadian end of the world one, not the romance). Singin' in the Rain. Lars and the Real Girl. The Truman Show. Oh, and The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. Off the top of my head, that is - I could probably list a hundred more.

  12. Just saw an amazing inspiring Lebanese film called "Where do we go now" about a small town where half the town is muslin/half christian and the lengths the women go to to keep all the men from killing each other. Moving and inspirational and funny. You can definitely do movies with a baby up to 6 months easily, it's after that it gets tricky. Lots of cinemas have "Babe in Arms" sessions around 11am on weekdays especially for mums/bubs- maybe you can encourage one in your home town too. melx

  15. I am so excited to watch the Gatsby movie - it's my favourite book of all time.

I am a movie addict. I love really cheesy ones, too, but I'll leave them off the list:

    Crazy Stupid Love
    Dan In Real Life
    Up In The Air
Seventeen Again (I know it sounds dumb but it is actually great...)
