My Baby Shower..

Last Sunday, I was so blessed to have some of the most beautiful women in my world gathered together to celebrate my journey into motherhood.  The afternoon was hosted by my gorgeous sister and mum and was held at Sassafras Cafe in Paddington. After a little research and thinking about the kind of celebration I wanted and decided on a hybrid baby shower, blessingway, which included high tea, a candle ceremony and a little crafting fun.

While my sister took care of organising the afternoon, one aspect of the day I couldn't resist being a part of was the decorating.  As well as some simple paper bunting, we created paper flowers (you can find the DIY here), added some beautiful native foliage and nestled them in recycled bottles painted with gold. Finishing touches included my collection of beautifully patterned vintage classics and delightful potted flowers (in teapots of course) supplied by Sassafras. Another one of my favourite decor elements was the gorgeous blackboard signs created by talented friend Akane.

Another special addition to the day was my grandmother's gorgeous orange typewriter, which was perfect for writing little messages to bub on.

A beautiful high tea was served along with champagne and a delightful non alcoholic cranberry and pineapple punch. We used this recipe and included wedges of lemon and lime.

Surrounded by very special women, I was nurtured, blessed and filled with love throughout the afternoon, with a little pendulum dowsing to determine bub's gender and a very special candle ceremony, a most precious and unforgettable experience.

And it wouldn't have been my kind of afternoon without a little crafting, so I decided to adapt the traditional bead ceremony to something a little creative. Rather than bringing a bead along, everyone was asked make a bead or two using polymer clay.  It was such a wonderful activity, filled with love and many giggles and each special bead has now been baked and strung together as a symbol of love and strength.

Our very special guest was Hamish, my sister in law's divine little boy, who entered the world just three weeks ago.  Needless to say, he's already charming the ladies and received many cuddles from doting family and friends.

Inspired by Gabby's beautiful blessingway, I chose to give candles to everyone as favours to be light on bub's birthing day. Ben handmade each beeswax candle and it was the perfect way to incorporate his love and thanks to this very special day.

The day was one I will never forget and such an incredible experience to be surrounded by so much joy and love. With each nurturing blessing, I now feel so much more connected to this precious experience and will carry that love with me into our bub's birthing day.

Much Love
