My World in June..

June has been one of those amazing whirlwind months and the whole time, I've felt on the precipice of a brand new world, just waiting to be explored.  Day by day our new nest transforms  a little more into our home, a place for us to settle down while we dream big and bring our baby into the world in twelve short weeks. Yes June has been one of excitement, challenge and starting a new and through those moments when I couldn't see beyond the boxes and bubble wrap, my word for the year.. embrace has made all the difference.

Weather: After five long winters in regional Victoria, these remarkable Queensland days have taken my breath away.  Wandering down the local beach barefoot, basking in the warm winter sunshine has been such a joy, while the cool evenings remind me to nurture my little family with warming winter meals and colourful crochet blankets.

Writing: Finding a moment to put pen to paper has been challenging this month and while I long to  release all my thoughts and emotions, I'm reminded to embrace the experiences and enjoy each moment.  My journal is waiting patiently, while in my everyday notebook there are exciting scribbles of nursery ideas, upcoming blog posts and sweet baby names.

Making: While I potter a little each day to bring our home to life, I'm finding wonderful stashes of stationery and craft supplies I thought had all but vanished.  Our nest is slowly taking shape, one room at a time and with the discovery of my sewing machine, I can't wait to start making some cushion covers and delights for the nursery.

Baking: As my baking love affair continues, chocolate brownies and warming puddings have been weekend treats for family and friends.  In July, I'm looking forward to a little birthday baking, pumpkin scone making and perfecting some of my grandmother's recipes.

Watching: As I feather my nest, I'm also exploring my new found love for cooking, very much inspired by Rachel Khoo's beautiful show, The Little Paris Kitchen and the glorious culinary world of Nigella Lawson.

Reading: Continuing my very domesticated month (being a Cancerian, I really do just adore being home), I'm re-reading Design*Sponge at Home, for some fabulous ideas to bring our warehouse style kitchen and dining room to life.  I'm also loving flicking through my grandmother's handwritten recipe books and can't wait to share some of her beautiful recipes soon.  On my bedside table is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, a fortuitous find that called my to nestle within its pages.

Daydreaming about:  With only twelve weeks to go and the nursery filling with joyous baby delights, I'm finding myself standing at the doorway, dreaming about the months ahead.  As I nestle into the warmth of my feeding chair and flick through my favourite story books, the roar of the ocean the most enchanting of soundscapes,  I dream about meeting our little adventurer and all that this amazing journey will bring.

Inspired By: It's the little details in nature that have been inspiring me this month.  The beautiful banksia trees in the backyard, the extraordinary sunsets and full moon, remind me to take time  each day, to explore my new surroundings, to take in the details and enjoy the gifts that the universe brings.

Excited about: June has been filled with so many exciting moments.  From the fabulous Vintage Treasure Hunt and opening my little instagram shop, Her Retro Adventuresto moving house and finding our new world on the Sunshine Coast, it's been a month to remember. And as I packed my bags this morning for my weekend in Sydney wandering with some very beautiful ladies, I'm filled with such joy and childlike adventure.  It's the perfect way to finish the halfway mark of 2013.

Looking forward to: July brings with much love and celebrations, including my 29th birthday and baby shower.  I'm so looking forward to spending the day with the beautiful women in my life and embracing their wisdom and guidance into motherhood.  Also on my July to do list, is the fabulous Finders Keepers, the Garden Expo, getting to work in our beautiful new veggie patch and enjoying family walks on the beach.  I can't wait!

Thank you for sharing in the little moments from my world in June.

Eumundi Adventures..

Nestled in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, surrounded by forest and fig trees, the little town of Eumundi was our number one stop on our first weekend as new residents of this beautiful part of Queensland.  The famous Eumundi markets was our first destination, followed by a wander down the main street for bunch and to explore the gorgeous nooks and shops. Blessed with perfect winter sunshine we spent the morning fossicking artisan treasures, meeting talented local artists and listening to some amazing live music.

Highlights from our adventure included, pottering in Berkelouw Bookshop, Jon Schultz's rockstars on canvas, the soulful sounds of Oka, Boom Shankar's delightful dresses, Ben's impromptu jam session on one the the amazing cigar box guitars from Bottleneck Blues and brunch at the gorgeous Bohemian Bungalow.

I haven't been to Eumundi for many years and I was so delighted to find the atmosphere as wonderfully enchanting as I remembered from my childhood.  It's so exciting to think it's now only half an hour away and is sure to become one of favourite weekend adventures.

What lovely parts of the world have you been exploring of late?

Secondhand Maternity Style - 27 Weeks..

Dress: Thrifted  Shirt: Cotton On
Scarf: Market find  Belt & Tights: Kmart
Boots: Rivers

Wow, the last few weeks have just flown by! I'm 27 weeks today and can't believe how fast my third trimester has come around.  It's such an exciting time for us, as we begin to get settled into our little home, explore the area, meet with our new midwife and get started on some delightful nesting. I think the countdown is on!

The winter days here on the Sunshine Coast have almost been too lovely for scarves and boots, but  a little wander to the beach in the late afternoon requires a few extra layers and I'm loving rediscovering my much loved brown boots and pashminas. Thank goodness for soft jersey fabric and my faithful chambray shirt which has become one of my must have maternity wardrobe staples.  And to all the gorgeous mamas out there, what were your maternity staples? As I peer into my wardrobe and begin to get a bit creative with my everyday clothes, I'd love to hear what favourites got your through your third trimester.

Wishing you a beautiful week ahead! Have you got anything lovely planned? I'm packing my bag and taking a little weekend trip to Sydney on Friday and I am beyond excited! My dear friend Steph and I are off on an adventure to join Jodi, Gaby and Luisa on a fabulous day of wandering with the gorgeous and ever inspiring Pia Jane Bijkerk.  It's sure to be an unforgettable celebration of everyday beauty.

Everyday Moments..

At last our little vintage bassinet has a home in the nursery..
Camellias blossoming in the backyard..
Morning sunshine and a lone kettle waiting patiently..
A corner of my studio, haphazardly unpacked..
A new home, a fresh notebook and so many ideas..

We finally got our internet connected this morning and it's so lovely to be back online.  The last few days have been a sea of boxes and bubble wrap, rediscovering treasures and exploring my new surroundings.  It's an exciting time indeed.

I hope your week has been a splendid one too!

On the Move..

The shelves are empty, the boxes packed and only the odds and ends remain.. Those wonderful pieces you accumulate over the years that are too heavy, precious or just downright unusual to fit neatly into a box (which for me includes a rather silly amount of typewriters). Our spirits are high,  anticipation fills the air and my nesting mode is now set to turbo as I wait with as much patience as I can muster, to finally feather a nest to call our home.

The moving process begins tomorrow and it looks like the sun might just peek through the winter clouds especially for the occasion.  Now if only I could find the energy to pack these last few boxes and hang out a final load of washing or two, rather than procrastinating (make that procrastapinning) and searching for fabulous kitchen inspiration (I'm totally adoring this one by the way).

Here's to exciting new adventures!
I'll be back on Sunday and can't wait to share some everyday moments from our new home.

And if you have any last minute moving tips I'd love to hear them!

June Seven Vignettes..

Oh Seven Vignettes, six months into this monthly challenge and I'm more inspired than ever.  Each month the themes that little bit more tricky and the amazing creative people who take part rise to the challenge with such beautiful and inspiring images.  Each day is a new learning process, a lateral thinking puzzle and a real buzz! Here's my take on June's wonderfully interesting themes...

Day 1 - Holder. Inspired by Sibella Court's fabulous philosophy 'if it holds water, it's a vase' &
gorgeous farmers market roses.

Day 2 - Set. Inspired by retro baking adventures.

Day 3 - Gold. Inspired by the golden age of piracy & treasures of old.

Day 4 - Edible. Inspired by my current love for strawberries & baking.

Day 5 - Candlelit. Inspired by late night musings by candlelight

Day 6 - Vintage. Inspired by my love for hues of vintage sunshine.

Day 7 - His. Inspired by moments from his world.

I enjoyed using the Dharma Door wrapping paper so much last month, I couldn't resist using it again for June, this time in a series of more traditional vignettes, paying particular attention to colour, texture and detail.  My favourite days were most certainly 'set' and 'vintage', especially because I seemed to be surrounded by retro goodness all last week.  This month also proved to be the most challenging, because I'm also in the midst of packing everything up ready for our move on Saturday.  Needless to say a few boxes needed to be repacked but it's always worth it at the end of the week.  It's such an inspiring process.  Many thanks to Jen for creating this fabulous challenge. I'm looking forward to having a new studio space to photograph in next month and all my props on hand. Bring on July's challenge!

Have you been joining in the vignettes fun too?

Secondhand Maternity Style - 24 Weeks

Dress: Thrifted (Vintage)  Jacket: Borrowed from my fabulous mum
Scarf & Tights: Target  Boots & Brooch: Vintage  Sunglasses: Wilde Asher

It's a bit of a special maternity style this week (and much closer to 25 weeks than 24), with a few shots snapped in a quiet moment of Saturday's Vintage Treasure Hunt.  Surrounded by my favourite collections, all lovingly fossicked over the years, with beautiful stories to tell, I was totally in my element.  Finding an outfit to suit this special day was a bit of fun.  I had actually thought of finding a new home for this dress, but for one reason or another I just couldn't part with it. I'm so glad it was still hanging in my wardrobe, not only because it still fits (although only for a few more weeks I suspect), but it's one of my very favourite vintage dresses and seemed quite appropriate for my first ever market.

The day was just a joy and I had so much fun with some of my favourite vintage sellers and meeting so many fabulous people in 'real life'. As the gorgeous Trudie suspected, I've most certainly got myself a market addiction and I'm already dreaming up plans and ideas for my next adventure (which includes finding a prettier alternative to the broom handle I used to hang my hand stitched banner). A big thank you to the ever amazing Kim for organising the event, to my family for all their hard work to help my little dream come true and to everyone who popped in to say hi and enjoy the vintage treasures, for helping making the day such a wonderful success.

I hope you're weekend has been a fabulous one too!
